Can someone say…trainwreck? As the final episode of Conan O’Brien wraps up, he goes out by bringing back one of his favourite bands, The White Stripes. I don’t know about you but I’ve got to wonder if Jack and Meg ever bothered to practice before taking the stage. I understand this was the first time they’ve performed live since cancelling dates from the tail-end of the Icky Thump tour but ugh… They were all over the place singing We’re Going To Be Friends

Personally I’ve always thought the White Stripes were interesting in theory moreso than in actual practice. A guitar god in Jack White playing 12 bar blues with a competent at best drummer in Meg. She being the blank slate that Jack could throw paint all over and call the result art. You have to figure that even he knew that the shtick would only last for so long thus his work since with the Raconteurs and the pitiful Bond theme. If the end is nigh for the The White Stripes, you get the feeling it’s closer than we thought after witnessing this performance.
